Whispering Pines Park is a 7-acre native park located on the northeastern edge of Bennet where the rural fields meet the urban neighborhood. Whispering Pines is a perfect connection from rural landscape to the urban area. Bennet’s growing population requires additional parks and green space to ensure a high quality of life.
In 2016 the City began a park master planning process to plan, design and budget park improvements. Whispering Pines Park concept was developed to emphasize natural plantings, outdoor education, and enjoyment of outdoor open spaces. The concept includes native grasses, tree plantings, trails, and butterfly and wildflower gardens with vegetation name markers and signage.
In 2017 the City completed phase one improvements to the park creating off street parking for school bus parking and easy accessibility to the park entrance, safety railing, storm water drainage improvements, and a concrete pad for portable restroom facilities.
Future improvements at Whispering Pines Park will include extending the concrete accessible trail, construction of a pedestrian bridge spanning a natural water way and incorporating a mowed native grass trail looping the park. Park plantings will include short prairie, tall prairie, wild flowers and a variety of native trees. A portable restroom and shelter area will be located near the park entrance. Park benches will be stationed along the trail to encourage visitors to engage with the natural surroundings. The shelter area will allow for the extended use of the park by families and group visitors.
